Summary:
This week I've continued working in my sketchbook I have
found that I am increasingly less concerned about the theme of human violence
and instead I am more interested in the concept of creating new unique forms. I
have started to consider if and how I should represent the world in which these
animals will inhabit, therefore I have considered how humans feel they control
the world and nature, a good representation of which would be how humans have
documented the world and have created virtual representation of it such as
google maps/street view. However I also want to explore a surreal world.
I've continued working in my sketchbook developing new creations to suit my animal menagerie theme. However I am starting to find that I am increasingly less concerned about the theme of human violence and instead I am more interested in the concept of creating new unique forms.
Above I have started to consider if and how I should represent the world in which these animals will inhabit, therefore I have considered how humans feel they control the world and nature, a good representation of which would be how humans have documented the world and have created virtual representation of it such as google maps/street view. However I also want to explore a surreal world, therefore I have made a quick painting which combines the Charles Avery environment with a google street view dial at the top left of the image.
Below I have developed an animal from the sculpture of an animals head that I created last week, in this form I wanted to present a sinister being that is a physical representation of unseen violence, violence that is suspected but cannot be proven, where the guilty party is undetectable. Therefore I have created this creature which has links to morality due to its skeletal appearance, and a lack of eyes which presents the idea of an unreadable being without being able to see the creatures eyes how can you perceive its emotions or intention? The second version is my preferred example due to its bulkier appearance and more dramatic skeletal form.
Furthermore this week I have finished working on the sculpture of the animal head which I used as a starting point for the creation of the above image.
